ALS is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by the degeneration of motor neurons, which causes a loss of muscle strength and eventually paralysis. Several gene mutations have been associated to ALS, including SOD1 and C9orf72.

Zebrafish model is a valuable tool for Drug Discovery research due to its unique advantages: low cost, external fertilization, fast development, transparency, and high biological relevance. A screening assay using two zebrafish transgenic lines (Tg(sod1:sod1_G93R,hsp70l:DsRed) and Tg(ubb:zgc:100846_89xCCCCGG,hsp70l:DsRed)) has been developed to identify potential therapies for ALS.
